The Toronto Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Group held the launch party for our latest anthology, spawned by the annual one-shot writing challenge. The party went down at our current home base, The Blake House restaurant, on May 23. The event was hosted by the one-shot’s organizer, the indefatigable Y.M. Pang.

Although every one of the 48 group members who has a story in the anthology is a winner, there were a few special mentions, including Rachel Evangeline Chiong, who won Favourite Story this year for “The Pearl Palace Club.” In second place was Abhirup Dutta with “Emptiness Stew with Neem Leaves.” Third up was the poem “Mother’s Love” by J.Y. Zhang. Their prize? A spiffy TSFFW pen.

Several authors in attendance read from their stories and then we got down to the serious business of collecting author signatures in our copies of the trade paperback. Rumour has it that they sold out in the first twenty minutes and you were lucky if you got one of the new TSFFWG stickers. They look perfect on your writing laptop!

The Emptiness anthology book launch event was a great evening for everyone and a wonderful way to celebrate the group and the hard work of all those who make it possible, and especially Y.M. Pang and her crack editorial team who cleared up (most of) our typos. R.H. Wesley contributed a fantastic cover for the anthology.

The anthology has (so far) reached #1 in three different categories on Amazon: Genre Fiction Anthologies, Science Fiction Short Stories, and Fantasy Anthologies.
